Jennifer Lien's Birthday Card Project

For her 24th birthday, the members of K.I.S.S. sent a large birthday card to our favorite actress, Jennifer Lien. The card was signed by members of K.I.S.S. and included birthday messages to her.

This is a summary of the Jennifer Lien Birthday Card Project organized by K.I.S.S. member Dennis Hardman.

Outside the Birthday Card Inside the Birthday Card

Late February this year Tony Aston posted a suggestion to the K.I.S.S. discussion board, "Why not send Jennifer a combined Christmas card this year ?". A card with greetings from all regular posters would perhaps be more noticeable, with more chance of being read.

This set off a wave of discussion, beginning with Sai pointing out the obvious I suppose, Jen's Birthday comes first.

Then who will purchase the card, would it be mailed to each contributor ? No, an administrative nightmare, also it would inevitably be lost or damaged. So do we email messages/greetings to one coordinator, send letters/post-its for insertion or post messsages to the discussion board ? So we came up with a good old compromise "all the above" !

It would appear large cards are hard to find even in the US, I know Paul Foley checked out half the shops in Boston. In the UK large cards are not difficult to find, but tend to be for Mums, Fiances etc... Lucky I found what I felt was the card with the right sentiment for K.I.S.S.

Birthday Wishes for Someone Special

Not particularly compact at 24x18 inch, but Jennifer would not require Kes's eidetic memory to remember receiving it. I informed Sai of my find and was invited to coordinate the project. Sounds posh, basically I invited the rest to send their messages to me so that I could enclose them in the card. One perk though, I got to write on the actual card. I also obtained some special decorated sheets to print messages on. The card was mailed to Jennifer c/o Toni Benson of Third Hill Entertainment on the 10th July 1998. I also enclosed a covering letter and a self addressed Kes postcard (with a US stamp affixed to it supplied by Sai) hopefully to receive confirmation of receipt penned in Jennifer's own hand.

Before mailing I photographed the card, later the photo's were scanned, emailed to Sai who mounted them on a Birthday Project page on the K.I.S.S. web site. When the postcard is received, it is likely to join the photo's on the Birthday page.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dennis Hardman for managing this project, organizing the receipt of messages from fans for inclusion on the card. Dennis has also produced scans of the card which he would like to share with us below.

Her fans would like to wish Jennifer a HAPPY BIRTHDAY on 24th August and wish her every success for the future !!
